Panasonic Unveils New Plasma Displays, Portable Projectors
June 03, 2003
Orlando, FL - Panasonic has introduced new 42" high definition and 42" standard definition plasma display panels, offering what's described as the industry's highest contrast images and exceptional gradation and colorimetry.
New projectors, including the PT-L735NTU and PT-L735U ultra-portable, high-brightness XGA LCD projectors to provide razor-sharp video, text and graphics, were also introduced.
The widescreen TH-42PHD6UY HD and TH-42PWD6UY SD plasma units are equipped with advanced panels featuring Multi-facet Asymmetical Configuration Hyper pixels.
The 16:9 displays are equipped with a Super Real Gamma System that reproduces gradation in steps equivalent to 1,536 shades to deliver greater image depth and to provide the subtle nuances to dark scenes. The New Real Black Drive System reduces the pre-charge emission when reproducing the color black that produces deeper, richer blacks and an industry-leading 4,000-to-1 contrast ratio for the TH-42PWD6UY SD unit and a 3000-to-1 contrast ratio for the TH-42PHD6UY HD panel.
Unique to these 42" plasma displays is dual picture capability -- including picture-in-picture and picture-out-picture modes - where two different type signal sources can be combined and displayed independently. The displays offer two picture-in-picture modes; one that splits the screen in half and shows different pictures on each half, and the other traditional mode where a small picture is inserted in the image on the entire screen. Picture-out-picture positions one picture on three-quarters of the screen and a smaller image on the remainder. The panels' remote control includes dedicated buttons to easily display these modes.
The units also offer a nine-point digital zoom that allows a user to enlarge an image two to three times normal size from nine points on the screen, and then to display the zoomed image full screen. The progressive-scan displays are engineered for multi-screen applications with a built-in image enlarge function that simplifies the operation of four (two by two) or nine (three by three) multi-screen displays.
The TH-42PHD6UY HD offers a 1366 x 768 HD resolution and the TH-42PWD6UY has a 852 x 480 pixel resolution, and both units provide exceptional computer and video signal compatibility with support for VGA, SVGA, XGA, SXGA and UXGA resolution computer graphics and DTV/HDTV signals in 1080p 24p/24sf, 1080i 50/60, 720p 50/60, 480p/i and 576 p/i. They also offer an expanded range of horizontal and vertical scanning rates (fH: 15.6 -110kHz; fV: 48-120Hz).
The displays are equipped with newly-developed 3:2 pulldown technology that automatically detects a 3:2 film-based source (24p video). This film transfer technology uses still-image processing for each individual image, thereby producing clear, smooth-flowing images with a detail level that closely approaches that of the film original.
The new projectors feature three new, highly-efficient 0.9" LCD panels with a Micro Lens Array (MLA) that combines with a 200W UHM lamp to deliver an exceptional brightness of 2,600 lumens and 90 percent image uniformity. The PT-L735NTU and PT-L735U display vivid, crisp colors in true 1024 X 768 XGA, while providing advanced resizing technology to support UXGA.
The PT-L735NTU also offers user-friendly wireless network capabilities, featuring new, sophisticated Wireless Manager 3.0 software. By simply inserting a postage stamp-size SD Memory card in the PT-L735NTU, users can transmit data using the industry-leading Wireless Networking standard (IEEE.802.11b) to the SD Card for projection. Panasonic has substantially improved the capabilities of this third generation wireless projector by making it quicker and easier to set up and operate and by adding "live" mode functionality that allows wireless presentations to include animated content.
The PT-LC735NTU and PT-LC735U offer superb audio performance and super-quiet operation. Both units are equipped with two, powerful 5-watt stereo speakers with a bass-reflex sound system, which means that everyone in the room will hear the presentation without having to connect an extra amplifier or speaker. The projectors' new cooling system permits them to operate at a whisper-quiet
The projectors are HDTV-ready and can automatically synchronize to display 1080i, 720p, 576i, 480p and 480i video in the 16:9 wide aspect ratio, and support worldwide video standards, including NTSC, PAL and SECAM.
The projectors' dimensions are 9-25/32" W x 4-17/32" H x 14-5/32" D and they weigh 9.3 pounds.
The PT-L735NTU and PT-L735U will be available in June at a suggested list price of $5,799 and $5,499 respectively. The TH-42PHD6UY HD unit will available in August at a suggested list price of $6,995. The TH-42PWD6UY SD unit will be available in August at a suggested list price of $4,995.
