Canon Intros Elura 50 DV Camcorder
April 22, 2003

Lake Success, N.Y. - Canon U.S.A. has introduced the new Elura 50 DV camcorder, featuring new DIGIC DV image processor, and a 10x Canon optics zoom lens.

The Elura 50 features a 1/6-inch, 680,000 pixel CCD image sensor and DIGIC DV processor, which improves the color reproduction for TV playback and printing color photos. In addition, the miniature 10x genuine Canon optical zoom lens further enhances the image quality of video and digital photos, rendering amazing detail and contrast, the manufacturer describes. A 400x digital zoom magnification brings even the most distant subject up-close.

The Elura 50 accepts either a Secure Digital (SD) or Multimedia (MMC) card for recording digital photos. Users can easily select between two picture-quality modes: XGA (1024x768) and VGA (640x480), which in turn can be set to three different resolutions - standard, fine and super-fine - based on the image quality that best suits their needs.

When set in the Motion-JPEG mode, users can record short video clips, attach them to an email and transmit them over the Internet. Video clips are stored on an SD or MMC memory card; length options include 10 seconds at 320x240 resolution or 30 seconds at 160x120 resolution.

Canon DIGIC DV technology is responsible for achieving optimum results in both video and digital photos. For this reason, DIGIC DV provides dual image signal processing capabilities, which can differentiate between the video and digital still formats. DIGIC DV makes it possible to achieve accurate color for both video and digital photos by utilizing two different color techniques to maximize video quality on a TV and still image quality for print or computer display.

The Elura 50 also offers Super Night Mode. A white LED assist lamp located on the front of the camcorder allows users to illuminate their subjects and continue shooting even in virtual darkness.

The Elura 50 camcorder has standard In/Out, for connecting to a TV or VCR, copying old analog videos to a MiniDV tape, converting analog signals to digital for transferring to a computer, A/V insert and audio dubbing. As well, it has FireWire and USB terminals for interfacing with a PC or the Canon CP-10 Card Photo Printer among others.

Additional Features

-- 16:9 Widescreen Mode

-- Built-In Microphone Terminal

-- Integrated Speaker

-- Photo Search/Date Search

-- Time Code

-- Self-Timer

-- LANC Terminal

The Canon Elura 50 DV camcorder kit will be available at dealers nationwide in May and have a suggested retail price of $899.00.
