HP Announces More Media Center PCs
April 14, 2003
Palo Alto, CA -
HP is shipping new additions to its Media Center PC line.
The new models come with a DVD+RW drive (DVD writer and CD writer combo drive); Sonic MyDVD software is included.
HP Media Center PCs include Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition, which enables recording and pausing live television and the ability to download, alter or burn digital music, digital photos, digital video and now DVDs. The system can be operated in a standard PC format with a keyboard and mouse or with an easy-to-use remote control.
Both the HP Media Center PC 864n and 854n can record live TV -- similar to personal video recorders (PVRs) - and burn the content to the DVD writer (discs can be played in many standard home DVD players).
Additionally, both feature a six-in-one media card reader, with digital data transfer support from all common flash media formats, improved graphics, faster processors and larger hard drives than previous models, the manufacturer describes.
The 864n features an Intel Pentium 4 2.66/533-MHz processor, a 160 GB hard drive and 512 MB DDR SDRAM. The 864n also has Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 THX-certified 200-watt speakers and the Creative Labs Audigy 5.1 multi-channel sound card.
The Media Center PC 854n features an Intel Pentium 4 2.53-GHz/533-MHz processor, 512 MB DDR memory and a 120 GB hard drive. HP Media Center PC 854n users also can now choose to upgrade the PC audio system by adding speakers separately. Both models also offer a 128 MB NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440 graphics card.
The six-in-one media card readers on the front panel of the devices can be used to download images or files directly from the media card of a digital camera or camcorder.
Additional hardware, software and accessories are included.
The HP Media Center PC 854n retail model is available at an estimated street price of $1,399. The 864n is available at an estimated street price of $1,699.
