DALSA Digital Cinema Camera Debuts
April 08, 2003
Las Vegas, NV - DALSA Corporation unveiled its new digital cinematography camera at NAB, and presented a paper outlining the camera's specifications and performance. The camera boasts eight-million pixel resolution, using a 4K X 2K imaging device.
The new camera is the first with the digital imaging performance (resolution, aspect ratio, dynamic range) to fully meet the needs of cinematographers from an artistic and quality standpoint, the manufacturer describes. Designed by DALSA from the ground up with close consultation from a number of distinguished cinematographers and directors of photography, DALSA's cinematography camera will deliver unprecedented image quality and unrivalled creative control.
The DALSA camera incorporates a 35mm film-sized, scientific-grade, CCD image sensor designed specifically for cinematography. At a resolution of eight million pixels (4K x 2K), the DALSA-designed sensor offers four times the resolution of HDTV, capturing more "film-like" image quality not seen before in digital. And, unlike HD, the DALSA-designed sensor is not limited to a fixed frame rate. It can operate at variable frame rates -- at full resolution and full image quality -- making is suitable for shooting slow-motion.
