iShot Imaging's Body-Wearable Recorder
April 08, 2003

Las Vegas, NV - iShot Imagaing has integrated the Recon miniature DVR from Fast Forward Video (FFV) into its new DV Sidekick body-wearable palm-size recording system.

Compact and wearable, the DV Sidekick is the ideal accessory for event monitoring and field inspections using video probes, camera crawlers, pole cameras, covert surveillance, and other video-based inspection equipment.

The DV Sidekick uses the Recon to help it record up to 6.5 hours of
inspection video at broadcast resolution, or more than 33 hours at full
compression. It then digitizes, compresses, and stores the video as Motion
JPEG files. On the 120-GB model, a two-fps frame rate at full compression
yields a recording capacity of 21 days.

Designed for maximum portability, DV Sidekick measures just 4¾" × 4¼" × 2¼"
and weighs 10 oz. It can be clipped to an operator's belt, worn on a neck
strap, mounted to host equipment, or operated freestanding. Power, video,
and serial interface connections are made at the rear of the unit, ensuring
unobstructed fingertip access to all keypad buttons. DV Sidekick runs off
any 5-V DC power source, including an optional Lithium Ion battery belt. It
withstands environments ranging from -40 to +176ºF and up to 90% RH.

An integral eight-button keypad grants fingertip access to a host of basic
recorder functions and settings, including playback, pause, record, video
loop through, clip/frame navigation, playback speed, compression, and disk
formatting. Keypad LEDs confirm playback, pause, record, and loop-through
status. For remote operation, an integral RS232 port permits control and
file management via any PC running the available Windows-based interface
software.

The Recon provides all the electronics required for a broadcast-quality DVR
on a board measuring just 2.8" by 3.9" (72 mm by 100 mm), a compact form
factor identical to notebook IDE/ATA disk drives. With fully integrated
Motion JPEG compression capability, the Recon features broadcast-quality
video capture and playback at 60 fields per second, resolution greater than
550 lines at 4:1 compression, and compression ratios ranging from 4:1 to
20:1.

The DV Sidekick with integrated Recon, joins the growing family of iShot
Imaging visual inspection tools and accessories designed and manufactured
by InterTest. These products include modular video inspection systems,
robotic camera tools, video inspection probes, handheld camera tools,
microcamera accessories, and retrieval tools.
