'Legends of the Knight' is Screening Nationwide Supporting Charities
March 05, 2014
Sarasota, FL - The independent documentary film Legends of the Knight by filmmaker Brett Culp is using a fresh approach to theatrical release to inspire the spirit of Batman in communities and support local charities nationwide.
Fans of the film are requesting screenings at their local theater through the film’s website (www.WEareBATMAN.com) with proceeds from the showings being donated to the charity of their choice. Since launching the concept in January, screenings have been scheduled in cities across the country raising thousands of dollars for local charities. Watch a clip on the unique concept here.
The innovative distribution approach reflects the message of the film and the heart of the filmmaker. Legends of the Knight portrays the uplifting, true stories of individuals who were inspired to become real-life heroes by their childhood love of Batman. The film shows the power these individuals summoned to affect change in spite of personal, emotional or physical obstacles.
"This project has inspired our family to be heroes, and we want to be part of it," said Emily Whittlesey, who requested a screening in Orlando. "We love the idea of sharing this film with our community and helping a charity that assists homeless families in the process."
For the past two years, filmmaker and longtime WEVA member Brett Culp and his team filmed stories in 15 cities and recorded 62 interviews. They captured the stories of individuals whose love of the Dark Knight inspired them to overcome devastating obstacles, motivate and encourage young people, and contribute to their communities. The film includes Batman Executive Producer Michael Uslan, comic book legend Denny O’Neil, journalist Jill Pantozzi and Gotham Chopra.
"At some point, every child dreams of being a superhero," said Culp. "They put on a cape and imagine that they have the power to change the world. Along the way, many of us lose our faith that this can be true. Legends of the Knight is a return to our childhood dreams of being a hero. Our goal is to inspire everyone on the planet who loves Batman to embody his spirit, engage with the world, and make a difference."
