Local Associations Prepare for Creativity Re-Match at WEVA EXPO 2007
March 19, 2007
Sarasota, FL - "It was exciting for our local association in New York to participate in the BATTLE OF THE VIDEOGRAPHERS! at Wedding & Event Video Expo last year. The TV Commercial ShootOut was a Battle segment that brought forth terrific concepts and outstanding commercials. It challenged associations to think about how to promote video to the wedding industry. We're looking forward to a rematch!" said Kathy and Al Ritondo, co-founders of New York Professional Videographers (NYPV) based in New York City.
Last year, all-new and original 60-second TV commercials promoting professional wedding video were developed for national competition by associations in Pennsylvania, Kansas, New York, Illinois and Massachusetts. The 2006 WEVA Gold Cup Award for Best Commercial was won by the Greater Philadelphia Videographers Association (GPVA) (pictured here) along with $1,000 in prize money.
For local videographers associations, competition and creativity will converge at the national level this summer, August 13-16, 2007, at the WEVA 17th Annual Wedding & Event Video Expo. Got game? Then get your association entered in WEVA EXPO’s "BATTLE OF THE VIDEOGRAPHERS: Local Association Production ShootOut." Now’s the time to script a winner and join the 2007 Battle for this year’s top prize and the ongoing battle to raise awareness of the quality and the impact of professional wedding video.
"Winning the 2006 competition against other great local associations was a thrill and one of the best moments for many of us,” said GPVA President Natalie Neal. "The $1,000 in prize money was quickly earmarked for a new video projector to show our members’ work in literally the best light possible," Neal said.
"The 'Local Association Production ShootOut' was one of the most interesting Battles WEVA has put together. I loved the completely different points of view that each association used," said Judy Handley of the Kansas State Professional Videographers Association. "Mostly, I really liked the camaraderie that developed between the members of our association in the production of our entry -- and then the camaraderie we felt with the other associations that participated. It was a totally FUN experience - can't wait until this year's Battle!"

WEVA International members are already using this innovative, multi-player link to promote the importance of professional videography. "The link to the commercials is perfect. I’m distributing it via e-mail to our leads list of nearly 4,000 brides," writes WEVA International member Paul Perhacs of Ohio. "The message of these commercials certainly portrays professional wedding video in a positive, and emotionally powerful manner."
Whether it’s working as a team, as Philly and Kansas did last year, or having your own preliminary contest to judge the best clip to represent your association, as Boston did, join the fun and excitement this summer and help promote our industry locally and nationally.
