'Power of Video' Inspires New England Videographers & Vendors
November 29, 2007
Sarasota, FL - Wired recently ranked "Video Unlimited" as Number 2 among six major trends reshaping the world. Professional wedding videographers and bridal vendors in the northeast learned new ways to harness the enormous impact of video by attending WEVA’s "Power of Video" presentation held at the NPVA in Boston, MA and the PVACT in Hartford, CT earlier this month.
Spotlighting exciting clips from WEVA Creative Excellence Award-winning wedding videos, the "Power of Video" was presented to both groups by WEVA Wedding & Event Videography Hall of Fame inductee Kris Malandruccolo, chairperson of the WEVA Public Relations Committee. The presentation brought videographers and vendors up-to-speed on cutting-edge wedding video creativity. It also revealed how video can be used by wedding industry vendors to expand their business and how videographers can tap into this rapidly emerging source of weekday income.
Compilation DVDs containing brand new 60-second wedding video TV commercials, produced by local associations for entry into WEVA's "Battle of the Videographers" at WEVA EXPO 2007, were also screened at the meetings in Boston and Hartford. Both the NPVA and PVACT were presented with copies of the compilation DVDs free of charge from WEVA for use in local marketing and industry promotion.
"Many thanks to Kris and WEVA for an inspiring presentation!" said NPVA president Whit Wales. "The passion for and commitment to creative excellence encouraged us all." Wales noted the "Power of Video" brought a number of bridal industry magazine publishers to the NPVA meeting as well as others.
Hartford's turnout was larger than usual the association said, and included industry affiliates in the mix. "After seeing the 'Power of Video' any wedding professional could not help but be convinced that their clients must hire a professional videographer!" said PVACT president Marleen Cafarelli.
John Zale, WEVA’s Director of Educational Development believes the "Power of Video" tour not only helps videographers nationwide understand the value of intra-industry marketing, but gives them an extra incentive to implement what other groups around the country are doing to promote the value of professional wedding videography.
Marketing With Video
As reported in WEVA's Wedding & Event Videography Resource Guide, the WEVA PR Committee, which in addition to Malandruccolo, includes Al Ritondo, Personal Touch Video (NJ); Natalie Neal, Glass Slipper Productions (PA); and Mike Nelson, Remember When Video Productions (UT), has spent the better part of two years developing Phase I & Phase II outreach programs that either directly benefit the WEVA membership, or are meant to promote the benefits of professional video to the wedding industry at large.
"The Power of Video & How to Get More Business Using It" a Phase II program developed by the PR Committee, features new video PowerPoint content aimed at wedding industry businesses, including consultants, caterers, florists, DJs, consultants, as well as videographers.
How It Got Started
In Phase I of their strategic marketing initiative, the WEVA PR Committee set out to bolster the marketing abilities of fellow WEVA members by creating an exclusive step-by-step program for developing relationships with local planners. This new networking initiative, "Take a Bridal Consultant to Lunch" launched in the winter of 2005 and explained step-by-step how to find, contact, and arrange informative meetings with local planners.
The committee’s special "Lunch Kit" included contact lists, phone scripts, wedding video presentation tips, and conversation starters. The innovative kit (free to WEVA members) also includes important wedding video research from WEVA’s Nationwide Survey of Brides, and the U.S. News & World Report article advising today's bride to "Tell Uncle Bob To Leave His Camcorder Home" along with other materials videographers can use to help further educate consultants and their clients on the value of professional wedding videography.
WEVA's "Power of Video" presentations are continuing through 2008. If your local organization is interested in featuring this inspiring program, contact Kris Malandruccolo at [email protected] or Dan Argenas WEVA's Director of Association Communications at [email protected]
