WEVA HD Development Committee To Begin Meetings With HD Camcorder Manufacturers
May 24, 2005

Sarasota, FL - The recent introduction of high-definition camcorders for professional videographers is prompting a new series of high-level technology development meetings between WEVA International and the major camcorder manufacturers.

Just prior to NAB 2005, WEVA International Chairman Roy Chapman met with chief executives and video division managers at the respective US headquarters for Panasonic Broadcast and Television Systems, Sony Electronics, and JVC Professional Products, to spark the first series of meetings between the manufacturers and WEVA’s new High-Definition Development Committee.

The association's new HD Development Committee, chaired by longtime WEVA International member, and EXPO speaker Mike Gunter of Glacier Lily Productions, is a WEVA advocacy committee that follows in the footsteps of the association’s longstanding National Select Committee on Camcorder Development (NSCCD).

From 1995 to 2004, the WEVA NSCCD provided key design input in the development of a variety of successful camcorders and VTRs, from S-VHS through the transition to DV, in annual “closed-door” (NDA) meetings with product managers and factory design engineers that were held in the US, and also in Japan.

“The new HD Development Committee is a natural outgrowth of the success of the WEVA NSCCD, and coincides with our industry’s introduction, and transition to hand-held HD camcorders, HD presentation systems, and the release of new HD editing software,” said Chapman.

“The mission of this key technology committee," he said, "is to provide valuable research, design input, feedback, and videographer preference information to manufacturers during the early design stages of new HD hardware and software. The manufacturers told us just before NAB that their design teams are ready to meet with the committee to discuss new product development. WEVA is pleased to be scheduling a new series of meetings right as the transition to the new world of HD production for videographers is getting underway.”

Chapman noted that all HD system manufacturers have an open invitation to meet with the WEVA HD Development committee. In accordance with manufacturer schedules, the new HD technology development meetings, he said, are now set to begin this summer.
