MiniDisc Sales Down 25% Worldwide
January 01, 2005
Tokyo, JP - Japan's Kyoto News released a report from the Japan Recording-Media Industries Association stating that worldwide sales of recordable MiniDiscs were down 25% in 2005 and are expected to decrease another 26% next year.
The association attributes the MiniDisc decline to the increased use of iPods and other MP3 players and recorders.
Kyoto News said that Japananese consumers purchase about 80% of all the MDs sold in the world. The 144 million units sold in 2005 represents a 25% decrease, and the association expects 2006 sales to drop to about 107 million units.
