Bridal Consultants Convention Wrap-Up
November 23, 2001
Los Angeles, CA - The Universal City Sheraton Hotel was headquarters for the Association of Bridal Consultants annual convention in November, 2001. Ironically located next door to the hotel that hosted the WEVA Los Angeles Town Meeting in February, 2001, the ABC convention brought together some of the leading wedding consultants from across the country.
WEVA was represented at the ABC convention by Steve Wernick, Director of Media Relations. "We met many, many ABC members who already worked with WEVA videographers in their home towns. There also were still a few attendees who were not aware of WEVA, so we were able to spend a few minutes introducing WEVA to those people," said Wernick. To help with this awareness campaign, assistance from Local Association leaders in Southern California was solicited.
"We played Creative Excellence Award-winning videos, on DVD, for the attendees. We explained how the Bride's Guide worked, and how they (the consultants) could use it to build an information base, and we even gave away some WEVA Beanie Bears and T shirts," added Wernick. "We had a great response. With exactly one exception, every consultant was excited about having professional WEVA videographers working with them. Most attendees also reported a general up-trend in the volume of business."
In some ways, the ABC event was also a mini-WEVA event. Dory Raymond, from the Gold Coast Professional Videographers, and Larry Goldsmith, from the Professional Videographers Network, provided assistance at the WEVA booth. WEVA members Isabell and Whitney Springer, from The Wedding Movie Studio in Hollywood, also had a table at the trade show, and Whitney provided video coverage for featured speaker John Daly. Eric Noble, from Noble Productions in Arlington, TX was also at the ABC trade show, working with his wife, Jill, at her company's booth.
Over two hundred consultants attended the convention, which also featured an opening reception and a costume party dinner. Plans are already underway for their 2002 convention, to be held in Scottsdale, AZ.
