August 19, 2005
Sarasota, FL - At the WEVA EXPO 2005 Opening Night festivities, Daniel S. Krieger, Chairman of the WEVA Continuing Education Committee announced the First-Year Recipients of WEVA’s groundbreaking Merited Professional Videographer (MPV) accreditation to the EXPO stage for a special awards presentation that included an historic, ceremonial MPV "pinning."

“Our association’s videographer accreditation program is designed to measure an individual’s knowledge of video production, both in a written format and through video submissions,” said Krieger. “We want to take this opportunity to congratulate and present MPV awards to the first round of WEVA International members who earned their MPV accreditation status by successfully completing the entire MPV process over the past year. They are all pioneers, and should be extremely proud of their achievement.”
The following WEVA International members qualified for accreditation status through the new WEVA MPV program, the first such association accreditation at the national level for professional wedding and event videographers:
John Deyo of ViDeyo Arts Videos (Austin, MN); John Goolsby of Cannon Video Productions, Inc. (Riverside, CA); Chip Goolsby of Cannon Video Productions, Inc. (Riverside, CA); Michael Kolowich of DigiNovations, Inc. (Concord, MA); Shawn Lam of Shawn Lam Video (Coquitlam, BC - Canada); Eric Model of Reel Moments Video (Nanuet, NY); Michael Nelson of Remember When Videos (Salt Lake City, UT); and Fred Tims of Fred Tims Video (Mastic Beach, NY).
"The WEVA Continuing Education Committee devoted four long years of work to bring the MPV program into fruition," Krieger said, noting the extensive contributions of fellow WEVA members serving on the committee, including Rommie Sebo, Eric Cosh, Martin Verona, and Trisha Thompson. "As a result, I believe the WEVA membership at large will reap the benefits, whether they are a seasoned professional or a relative newcomer," he said.
"Through the intense dedication and determination of our association's Continuing Education Committee, WEVA International has once again blazed a clear pathway of professional development education for its members," said WEVA International Chairman Roy Chapman. "The MPV credential is designed to recognize the educational accomplishments and dedication of a WEVA Merited Professional Videographer who has proven his achievements under the auspices of the oldest and largest national/international trade association for professional wedding and event videographers."
Once a WEVA International member achieves MPV status, Krieger related that he/she must maintain it by continuing their professional development through attendance at a variety of educational programs over the course of five years. "The continuing education component is vital," said Krieger. "As with any professional association that emphasizes education, WEVA International wants Merited Professional Videographers to remain among the best educated in the industry."
While the initial written exam has been conducted at WEVA EXPO, Krieger related that other venues for MPV testing are already under consideration. “Since WEVA EXPO is the largest gathering of professional wedding and event videographers worldwide, it has been a natural place to conduct the program's written exam, he said.
