WEVA Launches Follow-Up To Nationwide Survey of Brides
December 10, 2004

Sarasota, FL - Two years ago, WEVA International commissioned a groundbreaking, nationwide survey of brides to determine their true beliefs about the value of professional wedding videography. The quantifiable results, published in Wedding & Event Videography magazine and in the national bridal media, revealed professional wedding videography is highly-valued by recently married brides, and also showed how videographers could improve upon their current services.

“Now that DVD has since replaced VHS for preferred viewing, and with the advent of the new and superior, high-definition widescreen television format, WEVA International is undertaking a follow-up survey of brides nationwide to assess any change in preferences toward professional wedding videography,” said WEVA International Chairman Roy Chapman.

“WEVA International’s first survey of brides was conducted by telephone interviews and focused on many key areas of videography,” said Chapman. “It was the most extensive survey of brides and their views about videography ever conducted. For the first time, the survey replaced our industry’s ‘gut feelings’ with quantifiable data regarding the reasons brides do and don’t utilize the services of professional videographers, the relative value of wedding videography, and what professional videographers need to do to capture more business.”

The WEVA Public Relations Committee, chaired by WEVA International member Kris Malandruccolo of Elegant Videos by Kris, has been assisting in the launch of the follow-up survey by developing new questions about wedding videography that will be asked of the brides, related WEVA International’s Director of Association Communications Dan Argenas.

Once the follow-up survey is completed, Chapman said WEVA International will then be able to combine results from both the past and present surveys, “and provide our association members with the first ‘moving indicators’ showing how wedding videography, and professional videographers, are being perceived among today’s brides. We’ll all to be very anxious to see the results.”

WEVA’s nationwide survey of brides, administered by Breakthrough Marketing, Inc. of Des Moines, IA, is set to launch immediately following this holiday season. “Traditionally,” Chapman said, “the period for the largest number of wedding engagements is the Christmas holidays, which is why so many bridal shows are held in January and February every year. WEVA’s new, follow-up survey is perfectly timed to coincide with the bridal industry’s focus on wedding planning.”

Results from the WEVA survey are expected to be tabulated and announced at the city-stops on the upcoming WEVA 7th Annual Town Meeting Tour, sponsored by Sony and Adobe Systems, which begins in Atlanta, GA in March.
