2004 Town Meeting Tour Wraps Up at NAB
April 27, 2004
Sarasota, FL - The 6th Annual WEVA Town Meeting Tour, the most successful to date, concluded last week in Las Vegas during NAB. By combining WEVA Institute educational programming with the Town Meeting events, more professional wedding and event videographers were able to attend workshops than ever before.
Images from the 2004 Town Meeting Tour are available for viewing now at www.wevatownmeeting.com/atlantaphotos.html. This special lobby area on the WEVA website provides direct links to images from the individual city-stops.
Atlanta hosted the initial Town Meeting on March 15. The Las Vegas finale was held on April 20 at Bally's. In between, the WEVA Town Meeting Tour visited Dallas, New York City, and Los Angeles. WEVA Institute workshops featured cutting-edge creativity presented by WEVA Creative Excellence Award winners (including Brett Culp, Ken Ehrhart, Lance Gray, Donna & Robin Greenwood, Mike Nelson, David Robin, and Tim Sudall), along with system-specific training conducted by the Town Meeting Tour sponsors--Adobe Systems, Sony, Anton/Bauer, and Avid.
Special guests who were not presenting workshops (such as Brett Culp in Atlanta, and David Robin in Los Angeles), helped round out the evening’s Town Meeting programming. The special guest presentations were in addition to state-of-the art techniques and cutting-edge wedding and event creativity presented by WEVA Institute instructors at the city-stops. At the close of each WEVA Town Meeting, over $5,000.00 in digital video hardware and software from the 2004 Tour sponsors was awarded to attendees in special door prize drawings.
Local videographers associations took an active role in this year's winter tour. The Atlanta Videographers Association, the Dallas/Ft. Worth PVA, and groups in and around New York and Los Angeles worked in tandem with WEVA to help drive attendance to record-setting levels. WEVA International continues to help build and promote the development of local associations across the country. New association developments were discussed at WEVA's annual western region Local Association Presidents Council Meeting, which was also held during NAB.
With the close of the 2004 Town Meeting Tour, the next major educational opportunity for professional wedding and event videographers will be the 14th Annual Wedding & Event Video Expo this summer at Bally's Las Vegas. WEVA EXPO, the world's largest convention and trade show devoted to professional wedding and event videographers, will open on Monday evening August 16, 2004 and close by 5pm on Thursday, August 19, 2004.
Bally's Las Vegas is already booking room reservations. Guest rooms ($81/night single or double occupancy for all WEVA EXPO 2004 attendees) are again expected to sell out before the convention opens. Room reservations can be made directly through Bally's at 1-800-7BALLYS or 702-967-3848. Quick check-in for Bally's can now be done at the Las Vegas airport while luggage is arriving. The Bally's check-in center is adjacent to the baggage claim area. Shuttle service from the airport to Bally's, located in the heart of Las Vegas, is about six dollars one-way.
Complete WEVA EXPO 2004 program information and online registration will open on the WEVA website (www.weva.com) in early summer. The convention is open to all industry professionals working at all levels (WEVA International members receive discount admission).
