WEVA Announces MPV Program for Professional Development
September 02, 2003

Las Vegas, NV - A new initiative in support of professional development and continuing education for wedding and event videographers has been unveiled by the Wedding & Event Videographers Association International (WEVA).

The new program, known as the Merited Professional Videographers Program (MPV), was announced by Continuing Education Chairperson Daniel S. Krieger during the opening keynote presentation at WEVA EXPO 2003, held at Bally's Las Vegas.

Developed from selected elements of nationally-recognized TV, video and media college and university courses, the program is designed to teach video fundamentals and the proper execution of those fundamentals, Krieger described. A written test and video submission form the basis of the evaluation. It is completely voluntary and elective, he added.

The program is not designed to evaluate an individual's creativity or artistry, as the WEVA Creative Excellence Awards (CEA) awards are, but to ensure core standards of professional video production are met, maintained and enhanced. Elements of camera work and image composition, audio recording, video editing and post-production will be covered in the program, Krieger described.

"It's taken the Continuing Education Committee four long years of work to get to this point," Krieger described, noting the extensive contributions of WEVA International members on the committee, including Rommie Sebo, Eric Cosh, Martin Verona, and Trisha Thompson. "As a result, I believe our membership at large will reap the benefits, whether seasoned professional or just starting out," he added.

“After extensive input from WEVA International members, and the valuable participation of the members of the Committee, the Merited Professional Videographers Program represents an on-going commitment to professional development and the advancement of professional wedding and event videographers worldwide," described WEVA International chairman Roy Chapman. Elements of the program will be put into place this year, he added, and more information about the program will be available in upcoming issues of Wedding & Event Videography, the official publication for WEVA International.

A long-time member of WEVA International, Krieger is a member of WEVA's Code of Ethics, Continuing Education, and Public Relations Committees. He is also founder and president of the Association of Video Professionals (Mt. Sinai, NY) and a member of Professional Photographers of America, Wedding and Portrait Photographers International, and other industry associations.

WEVA International is the leading trade association for professional wedding and event videographers. The association is dedicated to advancing the professional interests of wedding and event videographers worldwide through continuing education, technical support, group benefits, advocacy committees and professional development training.
