|San Juan Town Meeting Breaks New Ground
February 04, 2002
San Juan, Puerto Rico - On the beautiful, tropical island of Puerto Rico, wedding videographers from many nations met together last week to absorb fresh and exciting "Wedding Day Hot Shots" creativity introduced during the intensive WEVA Town Meeting workshops held in San Juan.
Unlike this year's other city-wide events, the WEVA Town Meeting in San Juan was a three-day event, which began on January 28 with the WEVA Tour 2002 Sponsors' Reception. Professional videographers came from all across Puerto Rico and neighboring islands for WEVA's special off-shore winter conference. Attendees hailed from the Dominican Republic, St. Thomas, and Barbados, among other nations. This was also WEVA's first bilingual educational event, with Spanish being the first language of many of the attendees.
The quality of the education available in the workshops was evident by the attendance of industry leaders, including two of WEVA's Wedding & Event Videography Hall of Fame 2001 inductees, John Goolsby and Joyce Bertolami, who like other attendees were there to absorb fresh creative styles and concepts from acclaimed seminar presenters Randy Stubbs, David Robin, and Maureen Bacon. New information and exciting insights into emerging DVD technology were presented by Wes Moore (substituting for Lee Rickwood).
The conference also drew well-established local videographers, such as 20-year veteran videographer Ivan Montalvo, who raved about the first professional wedding and event videographers conference in his homeland. Goolsby summed up his reasons for attending this way: "If I want to get better at what I do, and I do, I know of no better way to get this level of quality education. The cost of attending this conference is unbelieveably low." Bertolami shared similar thoughts, saying, "You may think you can't afford to go to these events, but in reality, you can't afford not to go!"
There was valuable information in the WEVA workshops that could be put to use immediately by every attendee. In presenting a host of new and dramatic wedding day camera techniques, David Robin, a multi-year WEVA Creative Excellence Competition Award recipient, also unveiled a brand new concept in wedding videography editing and immediately swore everyone to secrecy. Randy Stubbs showed the "behind-the-scenes" details of how he created many of the shots and scenes (both video and audio) that contributed to his record-breaking achievement of winning six WEVA Creative Excellence Competition Awards in 2001. Maureen Bacon hit the "WOW" meter with the beauty of her pre-ceremony work, and then revealed shot-by-shot how each video developed from idea to execution.
