WEVA NEWS MINUTE: Podcasting For Videographers
November 17, 2005
Sarasota, FL - A study released Saturday by Bridge Ratings estimates that 4.8 million persons have at some time during 2005 downloaded a podcast. This 4.8 million estimate is up from 820,000 podcast users in 2004. By 2010, according to the study, podcast audience growth is expected to reach a conservative 45 million users who will have ever listened to a podcast.
It’s no wonder then that podcasts for professional wedding and event videographers are already on the net waves and so are WEVA International members! Last May, WEVA Industry News reported on the emergence of WedVidTalk.com, started by veteran videographers and longtime WEVA International members and innovators Kathy and Al Ritondo of Personal Touch Video (NY).
Since then the Ritondos have posted over 30 podcasts aimed at professional wedding & event videographers, including podcasts recorded on-location at the 2005 WEVA 15th Annual Wedding & Event Video Expo in Las Vegas, NV.
WEVA NEWS MINUTE producer Bruce Himmelblau, caught up with the Ritondos in between their podcast interviews at WEVA EXPO 2005 for a "behind-the-audio" view of the growing popularity of podcasting, how it’s done, and why Kathy and Al, wedding & event video’s podcast pioneers, jumped in. Archived on WedVidTalk.com are all of the Ritondo’s podcasts starting with their very first, a 21-minute discussion about their new venture recorded on April 3, 2005. The most current posting is their 2-part podcast (51-min. ea) with multi-year WEVA Creative Excellence Award-winner and WEVA EXPO featured speaker, Brett Culp of The CVP Experience (FL), author of the brand new book, “Capturing Creativity: An Innovator’s Guide to Wedding Video.”
“We are in an industry that is constantly changing, filled with business owners that operate their businesses alone or with their spouse. We don’t have the luxury of a ‘company water cooler’ to discuss the events of our industry. We hope that our podcasts will help bridge that info gap,” said Kathy Ritondo.
“A podcast is an MP3 audio file that you can download from the Internet," said Al Ritondo. "But you don’t need an iPod to listen to the audio program; you can also listen to it on your computer."
Al Ritondo has been a professional wedding videographer since 1985. He also works in the health care industry as a video producer. Kathy joined her husband’s company in 1989, leaving a 13-year career in magazine publishing. For the past eight years she served as chairperson of the WEVA Special Awards Committee, and is the liaison for the WEVA Local Association Presidents Council.
Both Kathy and Al also served on WEVA’s National Select Committee on Camcorder Development. Al has served as a international competition judge for WEVA's Annual Creative Excellence Competition Awards, and is currently serving on the WEVA Public Relations Committee. Both he and Kathy have presented professional development seminars and workshops at WEVA EXPO.
Kathy and Al Ritondo are also co-founders of New York Professional Videographers (NYPV) a local association that serves the New York City area. Together, Kathy and Al operate Personal Touch Video in Iselin, NJ .
